ACU Procedure Clinic
Dr. Tsang and Dr. Kolarski each have a hospital clinic every week in the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) at Health Sciences North. Dr. Tsang’s ACU clinic is every Thursday from 8:15am to 11:30am, and Dr. Kolarski’s ACU clinic runs every Wednesday from 8:15am to 11:30am. Our office will contact patients directly to book these appointments. The clinic is located in ACU #1, which is on Level 1 of the hospital, South Tower, a floor below the cafeteria. Patients should arrive 15 minutes in advance of their appointment time to ensure sufficient time for screening and registration.
FAQs
What is flexible nasopharyngoscopy or “a scope”?
A thin and flexible fiberoptic tube is passed through the nose (yes, all the way to the back!) and guided down the back of the throat to view the structures inside the throat (vocal cords, pharynx, larynx). This permits the physician to directly inspect the nose, throat, and larynx for abnormalities.
Patients are usually seated for this procedure, and if needed, a numbing spray is used prior. The procedure takes anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute to complete. No prior preparation is needed. Patients may continue with their day normally and can drive after the procedure. Sometimes, people have described some lingering discomfort that can last for the rest of the day.
